aerix-group.com – Johannes Taslim (born in Palembang, June 23, 1981; age 38), or Joe Taslim is an Indonesian athlete and actor. The silver-medal Judo athlete at the 2007 SEA Games played a role in the films The Raid: Redemption (2012) and Fast and Furious 6 (2013).
Martial arts and sports
Taslim had learned martial arts from an early age. He mastered wushu, judo, taekwondo, and pencak silat. However, he prefers Judo and this decision makes him a professional judo athlete. He won several gold medals at the national championship, one gold medal at the 1999 Southeast Asian judo championship, and one silver medal at the 2007 SEA Games. Taslim was a member of the Indonesian judo national team from 1997 to 2009. After being injured, he decided to retire.
Taslim is active as a model and actor. He appeared in various magazines, television advertisements, and a number of Indonesian films. In 2008–2009, Joe Taslim participated in several castings to become actors in the film industry, until in 2010, Taslim got the role of Jaka, a special forces sergeant in the film The Raid: Redemption, after taking part in a series of fights auditions. After The Raid, Taslim was involved in the first horror action film made by HBO Asia, Dead Mine, which was released in a number of Asian countries in September 2012 and premiered on all HBO Asia television channels.
In July 2012, Variety reported that Taslim was involved in the film Fast and Furious 6 (2013). Taslim plays the antagonist Jah, a cold-blooded killer who uses his martial arts and parkour abilities to fight his protagonists, Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker). In 2016, Taslim again starred in the big Hollywood film Star Trek Beyond. In the film, he plays an alien character named Manas.
